Why Philanthropy Matters
Traditional healthcare systems weren’t built to support the kind of creative, communal, and experiential care that helps kids learn and thrive.
Typical insurance reimbursement structures limit how care can be delivered, where it can take place, how long sessions can last, and who can access services at all.
Philanthropic support allows Cope with Courage to do what the system can’t—to innovate, expand access, and design programs that prioritize real-world practice within a community of peers.
Donor support fuels scholarships, program development, and the flexibility to reach more kids with evidence-based care in formats that truly meet them where they are and take advantage of how they learn best.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is COPE with Courage, and who does it serve?
There are built-in breaks and a shared lunch each day, giving campers time to relax, connect with peers, and choose from options like arts and crafts, board games, or supervised outdoor play. During these breaks, campers also have daily individual 30 min sessions with their designated therapist, allowing for personalized support.
Each day wraps up with a group closing to reflect on key takeaways and celebrate small wins.
What makes COPE with Courage different from other camps or programs?
COPE with Courage is intentionally designed and led by clinical psychologists from the Emory University School of Medicine with specialized expertise in youth mental health and evidence-based care. Therapeutic skills and exposure practices are embedded into games, challenges, and creative activities, so kids learn by doing, not by sitting through worksheets or lectures. This approach helps progress generalize more effectively into everyday life.
While many therapeutic camps try to find small ways to bring therapy skills & strategies into traditional camp structure, we bring camp into treatment.
Who designs and leads therapeutic programming?
All programming is developed and supervised by licensed clinical psychologists with expertise in youth anxiety, OCD, mood disorders, and emotion regulation. Camp activities are led by a multidisciplinary team of trained clinicians and counselors who receive intensive pre-camp training and ongoing clinical supervision throughout the program.
What outcomes and impact do you measure?
How are donor dollars used?
Donor contributions directly support camper scholarships, clinical staffing and supervision, counselor training, therapeutic materials, and program development. Camp tuition alone does not cover the true cost of delivering this level of evidence-based care with 2:1 staffing with PhD and masters-levels providers. Philanthropic support allows us to maintain low staff-to-camper ratios, ensure safety, and quality outcomes while staying in line with the cost of typical summer day camps in the area. Our priority is ensuring that resources go directly toward high-quality care and expanded access for families.
Is the camp accessible to families who cannot pay full tuition?
Do donors receive updates on impact?
Yes! Donors receive acknowledgments, periodic updates, outcome summaries, and stories that illustrate the impact of their support (shared with family permission).
Are donations tax-deductible?
Cope with Courage operates in partnership with Emory, and donations are tax-deductible.
Can donors engage beyond financial support?
What is the long-term vision for Cope with Courage?
The long-term vision for Cope with Courage is to expand access to high-quality, evidence-based mental health care for youth in formats that are engaging, fun, and non-stigmatizing. Over time, we aim to grow beyond a single summer program by increasing camp capacity, expanding scholarship support, and exploring additional locations.
We are particularly interested in partnering with schools, clinical programs, and community organizations to help bring the Cope with Courage approach into spaces where youth already spend time. Through collaborative partnerships, ongoing evaluation, and mindful growth, our goal is to build a sustainable model that reaches more youth while maintaining clinical integrity and outcomes.
