There are built-in breaks and a shared lunch each day, giving campers time to relax, connect with peers, and choose from options like arts and crafts, board games, or supervised outdoor play. During these breaks, campers also have daily individual 30 min sessions with their designated therapist, allowing for personalized support.
Each day wraps up with a group closing to reflect on key takeaways and celebrate small wins.
Where does camp take place?
Camp is based on Emory University’s main campus, with our home base located in the Psychology building. While we have a dedicated indoor space, we also spend a good deal of time outside around Emory’s campus and nearby village areas. These settings allow campers to participate in games, activities, and carefully tailored real-world challenged.
Where do i drop-off and pick-up my child?
Drop-off and pick-up take place on Emory University’s main campus at the PAIS Building, located at 12 Eagle Row. Families will receive clear directions and arrival details prior to the start of camp to ensure a smooth and easy transition each day.
Is food provided?
We are mindful that some campers have food allergies or dietary restrictions and will work closely with families to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all children.
Who is not a good fit for camp?
Our camp is designed for kids who can safely participate in group activities with peer support and adult guidance. Camp may not be the best fit for kids who currently display frequent disruptive or aggressive behaviors, are at risk of harming themselves or others, or may elope from the group or setting.
Additionally, Anxiety Explorers is best suited for kids whose anxiety is tied to identifiable situations or fears they are actively avoiding or struggling with. The program is designed to help kids gradually and safely practice facing these challenges with support. Kids whose anxiety is more constant or wide-ranging—such as more generalized and persistent worries about many different things rather than clear fears or avoided situations—may benefit from a different type of support.
If you’re unsure whether camp is the right fit for your child, we’re happy to talk through your questions and help guide next steps.
Parents
Does my child need to have an official diagnosis?
What if my child is hesitant about doing the camp?
That’s completely normal! As part of the intake process, we assess your child’s readiness and willingness to participate and help determine whether camp is a good match. Our team is experienced in meeting kids where they are and supporting them as they take on uncomfortable or challenging experiences at their own pace.
Who will be working with my child?
Campers are supported by a highly trained, multidisciplinary team that includes licensed clinical psychologists, master’s-level therapists, and supervised undergraduate counselors. All team members have experience working with children and adolescents, complete extensive camp-specific training in evidence-based approaches, receive ongoing supervision from licensed clinicians, and undergo required background checks.
What kind of progress should I expect my child to make?
Will parents get updates from camp?
Yes. Parents receive daily recap emails throughout the camp week, along with brief daily check-ins at pick-up.
We also offer an individual meeting with parents at the end of camp to review progress, share observations, and discuss next steps or referrals if appropriate.
